How To Create Your Own Blog Website For Free

How To Create Your Own Blog Website For Free

It’s easy and fun to create your own blog website, and I will show you how to create your own blog website for free, in under 30 minutes.

If you are in a hurry, then read my >>Review of Wealthy Affiliate<<, where I tell you about the best free hosting around! I will also tell you how you can learn to make money from your blog website.

Where To Find a Home For Your Website

There are many places where you can get free hosting for a blog website.

One of the most popular places to create your own blog website for free is Google’s very own ‘Blogger’ domain.

It’s very easy to set up. You navigate to Blogger. From there you simply click on the orange button ‘CREATE YOUR BLOG’. If you haven’t already logged into your Google account, then do so now.

If you haven’t yet created a Google account then you will need to click on the ‘Create account’ link, on the same login page.

Once you have looked into Google, you will be presented with the ‘Profile’ page. Here you must enter your chosen profile name. This is what your public will see and how they will recognise you. Choose wisely.

You will now have landed on the ‘Settings’ page. Also listed here will be your blogs. You can create many separate blogs. As this is a new account there are none set up yet. To create a new blog, click the orange button ‘CREATE NEW BLOG’.

A small window will open (show below).

Creating a free blog on Blogger

Creating Your New Address

The first thing to do is to create a title for your new blog. Now create an address for your blog. As this is a free blog, it is hosted on the ‘BlogSpot.com’ domain.

You do not need to buy a domain name. Simply enter a name, for example, ‘mynewblogaddress.blogspot.com’. In this example, your website address name is ‘mynewblogaddress’.

You have to add ‘.blogspot.com’ as ‘mynewblogaddress’ is simply a sub-domain of ‘blogspot.com’.

Choose A Theme

Finally, choose a ‘Theme’ for your new blog website, and finish off by clicking the orange ‘Create blog!’ button.

You now have your very own blog website, hosted on Google.

Post Your First Blog

There isn’t much to see, as you haven’t ‘posted’ anything yet. Go ahead and click on the orange ‘New post’ button.

In the next screen, you are presented with a  ‘What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get’ (WYSIWYG), pronounced ‘WizzyWig’. You can switch from the default ‘Compose’ document style editor to the HTML.

The HTML view enables you to insert HTML code or amend existing HTML code. Don’t worry about this for now.

Now that you have created some text and perhaps uploaded a picture and inserted the picture into your document, you can now try to ‘Publish’ your creative text. To publish to your blog, click on the orange ‘Publish’ button.

You will be taken back to your blog dashboard. To view your newly created blog with its first post, click on the blue link ‘View blog’ in the top-left corner.

You Don’t Need To Buy A Domain

You may think you have to buy a domain name like or, etc. but if you are doing this on a budget, then you don’t really need to do this.

As I explained in the previous section, Blogger allows you to blog on their domain as a subdomain, for example.

What Google is doing in effect is allowing you to live ‘rent-free’ in a room in Google’s mansion. This saves you the bother and expenses of buying your own real-estate.

This is exactly the same that Wealthy Affiliate offers on their domain. I explain how you can do this in my >>Review of Wealthy Affiliate<<.

How To Build A Blog

The first major difference between Blogger and Wealthy Affiliate is the free training available.

There is some training on Blogger, on how to write a blog and how to find customers. But, it is very basic.

Wealthy Affiliate takes this one step further and offers in-depth free training to get you up and running.

My number one go-to place to create your own blog website for free is with Wealthy Affiliate.

The platform that Wealthy Affiliate uses is probably the most popular blogging platform on the planet – WordPress!

There are tens of thousands of free themes to choose from when creating your website on WordPress, as well as free plugins to add additional features to the core functions.

Within Wealthy Affiliate, there is a very active and helpful community of fellow bloggers with a huge range of experience and skillsets. If you have a question, just ask!

How To Get People To Visit Your Blog

Wealthy Affiliates strength, apart from its members, is the first-rate training. The owners of Wealthy Affiliate have pulled out all the stops and teach you everything you need to now to write engaging and desirable content for your blog.

It is by blogging relevant information and giving forward to your target audience in your chosen field of interest or expertise, that is going to win you your following, or tribe.

Once you have captivated your audience, they will like you, and in doing so will not only become your customers but your friends. It is four times harder to get new customers than it is to sell to an existing customer. Repeat business is valuable to your success.

How To Get Free Traffic

On the subject of getting customers, Wealthy Affiliate will teach you bang-up-to-date Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) techniques.

These SEO lessons will enable you to write your blogs in such a way as to be attractive to the major search engines, including Google. It is this process of utilising SEO that will get you free traffic to your site.

I can tell you it is a massive thrill when you follow all the steps that are taught by Wealthy Affiliate when you publish your blog, and within days, you see your blog post listed on page one of Google. It is a fantastic feeling!

Conclusion

You may well be familiar with the ubiquitous Google, but there are very good alternatives.

With Wealthy Affiliates, you get all of the above plus training and support in building your blogging skills to a level where you are able to create a thriving and long-term business.

A business to be proud of and one that can grow and expand into other areas. There really is no limit where you can take your Wealthy Affiliate website.

  1. Hi, I have tried to build a website on GoDaddy, have you heard of them? but there isn’t enough help as to what to write about.

I know they tell you how to build a website but they don’t show you how to get traffic or how to get visitors to your website like you have here, so I’m wondering if there is a way of moving the website that I have built with GoDaddy to somewhere that can help me really build a full-time business online?

I thank you so much if you can show me how to be able to earn enough to build a better life for my family 🙂

    • Hi Matthew,

Thank you for your comments. I have no experience of GoDaddy; I have never hosted any websites with them.

I can tell you more about Wealthy Affiliate where you not only can have your website hosted, but they give you step by step instructions on how to move from GoDaddy to Wealthy Affiliate.

I have included a link here which takes you to a tutorial for moving a GoDaddy hosted WordPress website to Wealthy Affiliate.

      All the best,
      Paul.

  2. Very informative information.

Thank you. For years I have bounced from one guru to the other trying to figure out how to earn money on the internet.

But with each guru, there is always a missing piece of the puzzle, and yet another upsell which will cost more money.

However, it sounds like Wealth Affiliate is the answer to my search for quality training, hosting, domains and support.

I will read your review. I have previously built a Blogger website, does Wealthy Affiliate have instructions for moving my Blogger site to Wealthy Affiliate?

    • Hi Tom,

      Thank you for your comments.

Is there a way to move a Blogger site to Wealthy Affiliate? Now that Sir is an excellent question. As Blogger is not a WordPress site, it would seem to be a big challenge, but not insurmountable.

I would seem it is relatively straight forward, in that Blogger as an export facility and WordPress has an import option.

I will go away and investigate how this is possible without losing the all-important Google rankings. I will write up my findings in another post, and I’ll let you know how it goes.

      Many thanks,
      Paul.

  3. Useful information on creating your blog for free.  Excellent information on Blogger as well as Wealthy Affiliate.

You have provided a lot of useful information on how to get started in blogging and accessing the necessary resources; This is beneficial information.

You also make an excellent point that the training you receive from Wealthy Affiliate is invaluable and well worth the time and investment.  I have also used Blogger in the past, but it is no comparison from what you receive in Wealthy Affiliate.

The SEO information and training from Wealthy Affiliate is especially valuable.  Thanks for a well-thought out article on blogging.

    • Thank you, Joseph, for your helpful comments.

I will be following up with another article on this very subject. I hope you find that post useful too.

      Best wishes,
      Paul

  4. Creating a website online is the first step towards earning a decent income online, and it can make or mar one’s success.

So, hosting it where you can get a valuable guide and help would be a great plus.

Wealthy Affiliate seems like a great hosting site with a lot of benefits and surely worthy of giving considerations to owing to the invaluable training and security they offer to their hosted websites.

    Thanks

    • Hi, RoDarrick,

Many thanks for your comments. For many people create a blogging site for free is of paramount importance due to the lack of funds.

Wealthy Affiliate like many other platforms offers a way to get started with a free website. In addition to the free site, there is the training that goes with it to get the best out of blogging and getting your foot in the door to potentially, earning money online.

      Best wishes,
      Paul.

  5. Thank you for introducing Wealthy Affiliate as a home for a free website where you can fill it with a free blog. As many of the web hosts offer a free trial and a free site as Wealthy Affiliate does.

However, Wealthy Affiliate encourages everyone not to go forever free on Site Rubix but to have your domain where you will build your website for long term business.

Nevertheless, you can have it free until you want it then you can transfer it to your domain when you are ready.

    • Hi Abagatan,

Yes, you are quite right. So long as you are active with your free Wealthy Affiliate site, then you can remain free. If you are inactive for six months or more, then your free site will be parked.

If you later return, you can apply to the site admin to restore your free website, which you can then continue to use. There is everything to gain by signing up for premium.

You can read more about the benefits of Wealthy Affiliate premium account in my >>Review of Wealthy Affiliate

  6. Your article on “How To Create Your Own Blog Website For Free” is fascinating and informative.

It creates interest and desire in me to begin blogging on a low budget. You have covered every question I have ever had in regards to building a website for writing articles.

Getting traffic is another thing I am concerned with, and you covered that well too.

    Thanks for the information.

  7. Hello Paul,

I like your article because it provides a very detailed comparison of Blogger and Wealthy Affiliate. I didn’t think of living rent-free as a comparison. You are right.

It is so beneficial for so many people beginning their presence online to test it to see if they want to start for free, and then decide if they’re going to invest in online “real estate” and buy a domain.

    Thank you.

    • Hi Ana,

Thank you for your kind words.

I will be writing again on my experience on moving my ‘old’ blog from Blogger to its new home here with Wealthy Affiliate.

      Best wishes,
      Paul.
